International Military - North Korean leader Kim Jong-un assured Russian President Vladimir Putin of his people's "full support" for Moscow's efforts to safeguard the country's dignity, security and rights for development.

quoted from RT.com, Kim's statement was expressed in a congratulatory message on Russia Day. "The steadfast stance of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK or North Korea) is to respect the relationship between the two countries, which has been passed down through history," Kim said on Sunday (12/6/2022).

"Under your leadership, the Russian people bravely overcome all kinds of challenges and difficulties encountered in realizing justice to safeguard the dignity, security and rights to development of the country, and achieve extraordinary results, and our people give full support for this," the North Korean leader said to Putin.

Kim also expressed hope that "strategic and tactical cooperation" between Russia and North Korea would be strengthened. In early March, North Korea, which has been heavily sanctioned by the United States, was one of five countries that voted against a UN resolution condemning Russia's military offensive in Ukraine.

Pyongyang has accused the US of "hegemonic policies" of fueling conflict between Russia and Ukraine. In May, Russia and China for the first time used their veto power to block a draft UN Security Council resolution aimed at strengthening international sanctions against North Korea.

The countries have not vetoed North Korea's previous package of sanctions that have been in place since 2006, when North Korea carried out its first nuclear test. Since the launch of its military operations in Ukraine in late February, Russia has become the most sanctioned country in the world. North Korea is currently in fourth place on the international sanctions list.
