International Military - Comparison of the F-16 Falcon and the F-16 Viper is interesting to review. The two advanced fighter jets are the production of Lockheed Martin. Looking at its history, initially the F-16 Fighting Falcon was designed for the United States Air Force (USAF).

F-16 Falcon VS F-16 Viper

1. F-16 Fighting Falcon

The Fighting Falcon is a multi-role fighter jet. In addition to its maneuverability, this fighter jet is quite reliable when used in air combat or to support ground attacks.

Quoted from the Air Force website, in its role of assisting ground attacks, the F-16 Falcon can fly more than 500 miles, attack targets with high-accuracy weapons, so it is capable of defending itself from enemy aircraft attacks.

Looking at its history, the F16A was used operationally for the first time in January 1979. Initially, this fighter jet was designed under an agreement between the United States and its NATO partners such as Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark and Norway.

Equipped with a Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-200 engine, the F-16 Falcon carries weapons such as the 20mm Canon M-61A1 as well as a number of external hardpoints that can be embedded with air missiles or other ammunition. As it develops, the F-16 Falcon continues to have many more modern and sophisticated variants. Including one of them is the type of F-16V or Viper.

2. F-16V (Viper)

The F-16V is one of the newest variants of the F-16 Fighting Falcon. This fighter jet can be deployed for air attack missions, air combat, ground attack support, and maritime area patrols. Quoted from the Airforce Technology website, the F-16V was inaugurated at the Singapore Airshow event in February 2012. One of the features added to this fighter jet is the integration of the Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar.

Turning to the engine, the F-16V is powered by a Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-229 or GE F110-GE-129 turbofan engine. These provisions allow this fighter jet to reach a maximum speed of Mach 2.

In terms of armament, the F-16V can carry a variety of short to medium range air missiles. Call it like AIM-9 Sidewinder, Magic II, Sky Flash, AIM-120, and so on. This fighter jet also supports the integration of anti-ship missiles such as AGM-119, AGM-84, AGM-65 Maverick tactical missiles, Paveway laser guided bombs, and many others.
