| Indian Navy Warships Successfully Test Fire BrahMos Missiles in the Arabian Sea |
New Delhi - An Indian Navy warship successfully test fired a BrahMos supersonic missile in the Arabian Sea on Sunday. Local officials said the missile tested had a domestically produced "seeker and thruster".
“The Indian Navy conducted a successful precision strike in the Arabian Sea with a ship-launched BrahMos missile with a DRDO [Defence Research and Development Organisation] seeker and thruster, reinforcing our commitment to Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance) in defense,” said a senior Indian military official, as quoted from PTI, Monday (6/3/2023).
The supersonic missile is manufactured by BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd, an India-Russia joint venture. According to the company, the BrahMos supersonic missile has many versions, including submarine-launched, surface-launched, fighter-launched and ground-launched platforms.
The BrahMos missile travels at Mach 2.8 or nearly three times the speed of sound. The anti-ship version of the BrahMos supersonic missile was successfully tested by the Indian Navy with the Andaman and Nicobar Command in April last year.
India has also exported BrahMos missiles. In January last year, India sealed a $375 million deal with the Philippines to supply three batteries of the missile system.
