Tunis - The Tunisian Air Force (TAF) received the first Beechcraft T-6C Texan II trainer aircraft from Textron Aviation. In 2019, the US Department of State approved a Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Tunisia for 12 T-6C trainer aircraft and associated equipment and support for an estimated cost of USD 234 million.

Two years later in 2021, the North African country has decided to purchase eight T-6Cs. The other four have yet to be decided.

The company was quoted as saying by Breaking Defense that after the delivery of the first aircraft, the delivery of the second aircraft will be carried out by the end of this year and the remaining six by 2023. The Beechcraft T-6C Texan II will be placed in Squadron No. 13 Tunisian Air Force at Sfax Air Base.

The T-6C will replace the aging L-59T Super Albatross. The aircraft sent to Tunisia mark the 1,001 trainer aircraft that have been delivered by the Wichita-based company.

At the Bahrain International Air Show 2022, which runs from November 9-11, Textron Aviation is showcasing a light attack version of its AT-6 Wolverine aircraft.

The T-6C is a fairly popular military training aircraft. The aircraft is used globally throughout the NATO Flight Training program in Canada. It is also used in the Euro NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program (ENJJPT) at Sheppard AFB, Texas.

The US Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, Army, and US Coast Guard Aviation Leadership programs also use the aircraft. While users outside the US include Greece, Argentina, Israel, UK, Iraq, Canada, Mexico, Morocco, Colombia, New Zealand, Thailand and now Tunisia.
