US Unveils $400 million Weapon Package for Ukraine, Including Phoenix Ghost Drone
US Unveils $400 million Weapon Package for Ukraine

Washington - The Pentagon announced on Friday (11/4/2022) a new weapons package worth $400 million for Ukraine. The armament includes the Phoenix Ghost drone and Hawk air defenses. A statement from the Pentagon said the latest package would be provided by the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), meaning the weapons would come from industry and not from US defense supplies.

"This announcement is the start of the contract process to provide additional priority capability to Ukraine," the Pentagon said in a statement. "This USAI package underscores the United States' continued commitment to supporting Ukraine by meeting their most pressing needs, while also building the capacity of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to defend its sovereignty over the long term," the Pentagon said in a statement.

The US says the latest package will include:

1. Funding to upgrade HAWK . air defense missiles

2. 45 Refurbished T-72B Tanks

3. 1,100 Phoenix Ghost drones

4. 40 Armored Riverine Ships

5. Funding to upgrade 250 M1117 Armored Security Vehicles.

The US has now provided more than $18.2 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since the start of Russia's invasion on February 24.
