Abuja - The US-based company Textron Systems announced on its official website on October 11 the first operational flight of its Aerosonde UAS (Unmanned Air System) for the Nigerian Army. Aerosonde has ISR (intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance) capability and will be the first UAS capability of its kind in the country.

Previously, Nigeria had taken delivery of several Aerosonde 4.7 Fixed Wing UAS drones to enhance the country's domestic security and for ISR missions. The purchase of a drone includes the provision of ongoing maintenance, logistics services, parts and repair support, updates to technical publications, and ongoing asset support throughout the life of the contract.

“Aerosonde will make a difference to Nigeria as it provides the most cost-effective real-time ISR capability in its class.” said Wayne Prender, Senior Vice President of Air Systems at Textron Systems. Aerosonde offers multi-mission capability with a proven track record of reliability and performance of more than 585,000 flight hours worldwide.
