The Cold War era M270 rocket artillery system is expected to be significantly improved as the system is upgraded with new types of ammunition. The ER GMLRS commenced flight testing in March 2021 and is intended to provide an engagement range of 150 km.
The rocket uses a larger motor, relies on tail-driven guides and has a newly designed fuselage, with production expected to begin in 2023.
