Moscow - The explosion incident at a Russian military site in northern Crimea on Tuesday morning was a deliberate act. This is a statement issued by the Russian Ministry of Defense. Describing its response, Russia's Defense Ministry said it was taking the necessary steps to eliminate the consequences of sabotage.

"The explosion caused damage to a number of civilian objects, including power lines, power plants, railroad tracks and several houses," the statement said.

The site affected by the attack was located near the village of Mayskoye in the Dzhankoy area of Russia. The Russian military is using it as a temporary ammunition depot, he said earlier. The ammunition exploded due to fire.

Sergey Aksyonov, head of the Republic of Crimea, declared a state of emergency across the region on Tuesday because of the incident. Officials in Crimea said two civilians were injured in Mayskoye. The lives of the two victims were not in danger, the report said.

Rail traffic has also been disrupted in Crimea due to the breakdown of railway lines. The local government said it would deploy additional buses to carry passengers. Another fire in the ammunition depot broke out last week at a military airfield near the resort town of Novofedorovka.

The incident left one person dead and 14 others injured. The Russian Ministry of Defense did not report any findings of fraud behind it.
