Russian Ammunition Depot in Dzhankoi district, Crimea Explodes - Russia-Ukraine War Update

Kiev - An ammunition depot in the Dzhankoi district of Crimea exploded. This was revealed by the head of the region Sergey Aksenov on his Telegram channel.

"I am in the village of Azovsky, Dzhankoi district, where this morning according to the Ministry of Defense, a fire broke out in the temporary storage area of ​​one of the ammunition of the military unit. At the moment the explosion continues," Aksenov wrote as quoted by TASS, Tuesday (16/8/2022) .

According to Aksenov, at least two people were injured in the incident. "There were two civilian casualties. One person (got) shrapnel wounds, the other was hit by a wall. Their lives are not in danger," Aksenov said.

He added that a 5-kilometer zone was closed around the scene and local residents were being evacuated. "We provide assistance on the spot. Ambulances, law enforcement officers are deployed in sufficient numbers," the Crimean chief said.



Quoted from Russia Today, images on social media purportedly taken at the time of the incident show a large fireball soaring into the air. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the ammunition exploded due to a fire at the site and the cause is being investigated.

This is the second incident on the Crimean peninsula since the beginning of the month. Last week, a series of explosions occurred at the Saki military airfield, which is located in the resort town of Novofedorovka. As a result, 14 people were injured and one person died.
