Soviet Union Era Weapons Laboratory in Russia Updates Testing Facilities

Moscow - Russia's main weapons laboratory, TsNIITochMash, is updating its testing facility after it was discontinued following the fall of the Soviet Union. The news was disclosed by the TASS news agency on Wednesday (17/8/2022), citing the company's press service.

TsNIITochMash, which researches and designs a wide range of weapons including anti-tank missiles and rifles for the Russian military, told TASS that, “The updated lab will be able to test ballistic weapons and small-caliber artillery in extreme cold temperatures.”

Russia has been eager to emphasize its weapons capabilities since it invaded Ukraine on February 24. In addition, Russian President Vladimir Putin insists Russia's military technology is "many years" ahead of its competitors.

In a speech opening the arms exhibition on Monday, Putin said Russia was ready to sell advanced weapons to its allies and cooperate with other countries in developing military technology.

Russia ranks second after the United States in global arms sales, selling about $15 billion a year, nearly a fifth of the world's arms export market.
