Chinese Air Force J-7 fighter jet crashes during training and crashes |
International Military - At least one person was killed and two others injured when a fighter jet crashed in central China on Thursday (9/6/2022), state media reported. According to state-owned television station CCTV, a J-7 fighter jet belonging to the Chinese Air Force crashed during training and crashed in the vicinity of the airport causing damage to private homes.
"The pilot jumped to safety and has been transferred to the hospital along with the others who were injured," CCTV said. "The cause of the accident in Xiangyang, a city in Hubei province, is being investigated," CCTV added.
Footage from the crash site posted online by the Xinhua news agency showed the fire sending black smoke billowing into the air from a street in Xiangyang.
Several buildings appear to have been completely leveled in the crash. This is not the first time a Chinese military jet has crashed into a resident's house. Two pilots were killed when a navy plane crashed in 2019 in the island province of Hainan.
In March this year, a civilian plane crashed in the southern province of Guangxi, killing 132 people in China's worst air disaster in decades.
