Washington - The United States Department of State on Thursday, May 11, 2023, has approved the sale of 60 CH-47F Chinook Heavy Lift Helicopters to Germany. The proposed purchase of USD 8.5 billion was announced by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) to the US Congress.

The package includes 140 engines, including 20 spare parts, missile warning systems, radios, transponders, navigation systems, a range of modifications, technical support, and training of pilots and technicians, the Pentagon said.

Previously in June 2022, the Boeing Chinook Team won the new Heavy Transport Helicopter (STH) competition for the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr). It will take three years to deliver the helicopter, according to manufacturer Boeing.

The CH-47F Heavy Lift Helicopter is a military transport helicopter used by the United States Army and other military forces around the world. It is capable of carrying a large payload and is used for a variety of missions, including troop transport, cargo transport, and medical evacuation.
