Berlin - Germany has recently begun to soften towards Ukraine. Because initially, they refused to send weapons aid there. But after long lobbying and negotiations, Germany finally made it a point to send in its weapons. That includes a state-of-the-art system called IRIS-T SLM, which will arrive in Ukraine in October.

This was reported by the German ambassador to Ukraine, Anka Feldhusen to Defense View. “The first system, I hope will arrive in October, and the second at the end of the year and next year”, said Feldhusen. Germany itself intends to send four units of IRIS-T SLM. As a defense system, the IRIS-T SLM will help Ukraine deal with Russian missiles.

Quoted from Root Nation, the IRIS-T SLM is a medium-range air defense system. In addition to the missile intercept system, he can also face drone attacks, helicopters and ballistic missiles. This system itself is the result of cooperation between America, Germany, and Italy. It was created to replace systems with similar functionality, namely the US Patriot used by America and Germany, and the Italian Nike Hercules AS System.

One IRIS-T SLM missile is said to be capable of providing eight times wider air defense than the Patriot. That's because of the advanced radar inside, vertical launch, and wider range. The radars used are Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) and Ultra High Frequency (UHF), radars that can "see" an area of 360 degrees.

This missile launcher is mounted on top of the MAN 8X8 vehicle. And it requires 2 operators to operate it, and it only takes about 10 minutes to use. With a single push, the IRIS-T SLM system can launch eight missiles at once. The warhead of the missile itself is a high-explosive fragmentation weighing 11.4 kg. The missile flies with a single-stage solid rocket engine equipped with a thrust vector control (TVC) system.

With it, the missile can reach the target faster, and move more nimbly or maneuver high. The missiles on the IRIS-T SLM can hit targets as far as 40 km and fly at an altitude of 20 km.

The IRIS-T SLM missile is equipped with GPS and an inertial navigation system (INS) for autonomous navigation. It is also equipped with an infrared (IIR) imaging system. With it, the missile can hit the target with very high accuracy. The IIR homing system also has the capability for high image processing. So it is very difficult to interfere with flares or reflectors.

With the arrival of this defense system in October. The war raging in Ukraine will be even more lively. Since the beginning of the war in February, Ukraine has been bombarded with various weapons from various countries. Especially the United States, which sends the most systems there. Even if in total, their aid package for Ukraine so far has reached 8 billion dollars.

In Russia itself, they already intend to completely attack Ukraine. This was stated by President Putin, who deployed all his military personnel to the reserve division. Likewise his fighter fleet to fight to the death in Ukraine.

The announcement was made by President Vladimir Putin on the evening of Wednesday, September 21. He said that all men between the ages of 18 and 65 were barred from leaving Russia. And they will all be required to follow military service.
