Washington - US Army assesses the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) to be very effective on the battlefield. Therefore, the US Army needs 500 units M142 HIMARS until 2028. This is to cover the need after a number of HIMARS are transferred to Ukraine, which is fighting against Russia.

In a statement, the US Army expects HIMARS manufacturer Lockheed Martin to produce 100 units of this artillery weapon system per year for the next five years. It was further stated that these needs include systems engineering, program management, integrated logistics support, spare parts supply, and training.

The US Army currently operates 363 HIMARS, while the US Marine Corps has 47. Romania and Singapore both have 18 HIMARS, while Jordan operates 12.

Meanwhile Lockheed Martin stated, the M142 HIMARS provides strategic capabilities to the army, increasing the defense of key assets while reducing overall mission costs.

This system in its mobility can be transported using the C-130 Hercules aircraft. HIMARS carries one launch pod containing six rockets or one Army Tactical Missile System missile. The company says HIMARS has proven its effectiveness in Ukraine in the fight against Russian troops.
