Norway Receives Three Additional F-35A Fighters

Oslo - The Royal Norwegian Air Force (RNoAF) has received an additional three F-35A Lightning II fighter jets. All three aircraft arrived at Orland Air Force Base on Wednesday, August 24, 2022.

The new aircraft are numbered 35, 36 and 37 respectively. This is Lockheed Martin's first delivery of the F-35 to Norway in 2022.

According to the plan, Norway will still receive an additional three more F-35s this year, bringing the total to 40. In total, Norway will have 52 new F-35 fighters. But ten of that number are stationed in the United States for F-35 RNoAF pilot training.

Since the last delivery in December last year, Norway achieved several milestones with the F-35, including taking over the Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) mission in Evenes from January 2022.

In February, two Norwegian F-35s carried out their first identification mission from Evenes. Delivery of the F-35 to the RNoAF is slated for completion by 2025. Norway has also recently ordered StormBreaker bombs from the US for its F-35 fleet.

Built by Raytheon Missiles & Defense, the bomb uses a combination of active millimeter-wave radar homing, semi-active laser guidance, infrared homing, and inertial guidance combined with GPS and data links.
