International Military - French company, Thales, offers 15 units of the latest Ground Master 400 Alpha (GM400α) radar to protect Thai airspace. This ground-based radar is said by the company to meet all the requirements issued by the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) regarding the need for air surveillance radar.

Thales, as reported by Janes at the Defense & Security 2022 exhibition in Bangkok, said that the procurement of radar was one of the priorities of the RTAF. This program has been going on for a long time and has even been included in the RTAF white paper, to replace a number of old radars that are still used by the Air Force of the White Elephant Country.

Thale explained, in addition to being permanently installed, the GM400α radar can also be installed on vehicles so that it is mobile. The GM400α was launched by Thales in November 2021. This radar has five times more power than the previous variant GM400.

For range, the GM400 Alpha is capable of detecting targets up to 515 km or 10% further than the GM400. The radar also has artificial intelligence capabilities integrated into the system.

The GM400α can detect targets up to 100,000 feet high with an altitude angle of 40 degrees. For the previous version, the GM400, the radar, which was launched in 2007, has sold 75 systems to more than 15 countries.
