Kiev - Ukrainian General Valery Zaluzhny reportedly clashed with President Volodymyr Zelensky. In short, the dispute was caused by differences of opinion between the two. Zaluzhny suggested that the president leave Artyomovsk, also known as Bakhmut in Ukraine, because Russian troops had previously threatened to take over the city.

On the other hand, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy considered the city a stronghold, thus refusing to withdraw his troops. So, who exactly is this Ukrainian general who is in conflict with Zelensky?

Valery Zaluzhny with full name Valery Fedorovych Zaluzhny is a general who serves as Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Quoting the Kyiv Post page, he was born on July 8, 1973 in Novohrad-Volynsky. In 1997, Zaluzhny graduated from the Odesa Higher Command School General Military Faculty. After that, he made it through various other stages of military service in Ukraine.

He received his second higher military education at the National Defense Academy in 2007. Then, around 2014 Zaluzhny was also declared a graduate of the Ivan Chernyakhovsky National Defense University of Ukraine.

In the summer of 2014, he participated in the war in Eastern Ukraine. In his status, Zaluzhny was then Deputy Commander of Sector C in Debaltseve. Over time, his name is increasingly known and become a leader for military groups in the region. His career took a turn for the worse when he reached the rank of general in 2017.

A year later, Valery Fedorovych Zaluzhny was appointed chief of the joint operational staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In this task, a number of achievements were also recorded. One of them was the successful liberation of several settlements, including the village of Pivdenne which was controlled by the Russians.

Over time, it was only on July 21, 2021, that Valery Fedorovych Zaluzhny was appointed by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy as commander-in-chief. The initial breakthrough he made at that time was the priority towards the transition of the armed forces from Soviet standards to NATO.
