Ukraine Suspected of Counter-Invasion of Russia, This is the US Response!

Washington - Three Russian military bases were attacked by drones on Monday, which Moscow dismissed as attacks from Ukraine. Two nuclear bombers were reported to have been the targets of the attack. The United States (US) government said on Tuesday that Washington was not pushing Ukraine to counter-invade Russia.

"We do not permit Ukraine to strike beyond its borders; we do not encourage Ukraine to strike beyond its borders," US State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters. "Everything we do everything the world does is to support Ukraine, to support Ukrainian independence," he said again, as quoted by AFP, Wednesday (7/12/2022).

Price stopped short of linking the drone strike to Ukraine, which has so far not officially claimed responsibility. Russia says three people were killed and two nuclear bombers damaged in Monday's attacks on three bases into its territory.

Experts believe Ukraine penetrated Russian airspace with a simple Soviet-era drone and not the multibillion-dollar military aid provided by Western powers since the February 24 invasion of Moscow.

Price also declined to comment on a Wall Street Journal report that the United States had converted the HIMARS delivered to Ukraine to a rocket system that was seen as a game changer on the battlefield to prevent firing at Russia. President Joe Biden has publicly said he is not in favor of a long-range missile capacity for Ukraine, fearing an escalation that would put the United States at war with Russia directly.
