US Ready to Re-Supply Many New Weapons to Ukraine to Fight Russia

Washington - The United States is preparing to supply a lot of new weapons to Ukraine to fight the Russian invasion. This new weapons package includes the Avenger air defense system. White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said in addition to the Avenger air defense system equipped with Stinger missiles, the new weapons package also includes missiles for the Hawk air defense system.

"This increase in air defense will be critical for Ukraine as Russia continues to use Iranian-made cruise missiles and drones to attack critical civilian infrastructure," Sullivan said during a press conference at the White House on Thursday, as quoted by Al Arabiya, Friday (11/11/ 2022).

Sullivan added that the US weapons would complement other air defense contributions announced by allies and partners. Meanwhile, the Pentagon also issued a statement detailing the new weapons package for Ukraine. Here are the details:

1. Additional ammunition for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS)

2. 21,000 155mm . artillery shells

3. 500 precision-guided 155mm artillery shells

4. 10,000 rounds of 120mm mortar

5. 100 High Mobility Versatile Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs)

6. 400 grenade launchers

7. Small arms, optics and over 20,000,000 rounds of small arms ammunition

9. Demolition equipment for obstacle clearance

10. Cold weather protective equipment

"With Russia's unrelenting and brutal air strikes against Ukraine's critical infrastructure, additional air defense capabilities are critical," the Pentagon said in a statement.

The US has provided more than $21.4 billion in security assistance to Ukraine and more than $18.6 billion since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24. "To meet Ukraine's evolving battlefield requirements, the United States will continue to work with Allies and partners to provide Ukraine with key capabilities," the Pentagon continued.
